Prenatal and Perinatal Psychology

Prenatal and Perinatal Psychology is an exciting emerging interdisciplinary field. Professionals and families come together to focus on the earliest stages that start influencing the nature of human life-form preconception through infancy.

The understanding of environmental influences on the developing foetus, takes us on a journey that explores not only the physical developing structure of the human body, but now respectfully requires us to examine the intermingling joint fusion of the physical structure and the five sensory input factors (sight, sound, touch, taste and smell) associated with the parents environmental surroundings.

The joint partnership examines what best supports an optimal beginning and also what factors may result in stress/trauma patterns that could undermine healthy development and optimal life-patterns, for many this practice is a new frontier that teeters on the fringes of scientific logic and basic common sense.

Leonardo da Vinci's sketch of the human male sperm, and its inner core, had us for century’s speculating on the male being the more dominating factor when it came to the powers of reproduction, handing over the role of babysitter or care-giver to that of the female.

But thanks to modern technology and the consistency of human determination and thirst for knowing,  we have managed to come a long way from our once accepted understanding of Leonardo da Vinci's sketch, our knowledge of human development now takes us into the realm of the womb, and the arena of the physical and sensory fusion development.

The following lesson plans will investigate the timely introduction of each sensory during a full-term pregnancy and the influencing role they and surrounding factors may play on the developing nature of the foetus, we will explore the

" Considering all we know today about the realities of life before birth, we must reset the clock on parenthood. To start parenting early, you cannot miss the period from conception to birth! All the new facts of life plead for parental involvement and participation in the powerful matrix of intimate interactions that take place in the womb. Pregnancy is parenting de facto. Parental influence on a child is at its peak during construction in utero."
